President Trump Signals Imminent Passage of Crypto Market Structure Bill
President Donald Trump has confirmed that a comprehensive crypto market structure bill is nearing passage, marking a potential turning point for the industry. The legislation, which has been stalled by jurisdictional disputes between the CFTC and SEC, aims to provide clearer regulatory guidelines for digital assets.
The House advanced the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act last July, outlining a framework that divides oversight between the SEC for securities and the CFTC for commodities. The Senate Agriculture Committee narrowly approved its version, the Digital Commodity Intermediaries Act, in a 12-11 vote, highlighting lingering divisions.
Provisional registration for exchanges could be implemented within 180 days of enactment. Industry players like Coinbase have criticized earlier drafts for overly restrictive stablecoin rules and limitations on DeFi.
